How to prepare for my English interview effectively?

In this section, our focus is entirely on interviews associated with Roast Jobs. Once we’ve submitted your application, we’ll receive feedback from employers who want to have a conversation with you. Interviews can be stressful for many of us, so let’s discuss how to approach them and prepare effectively.

First and foremost, there’s no need to put too much pressure on yourself. The interview won’t last more than 15 minutes! The main goal of this interview is not to judge you but to gain a better understanding of what you’re seeking and to get to know you better. Employers are already aware of your English proficiency and your background, so if you lack experience and your English level is at an A2/B1, there’s no need to worry; things will go smoothly!

What if you find it challenging to express yourself in English? It’s a good idea to prepare in advance. Translate and have someone proficient in English review it. During the interview, don’t hesitate to ask the employer to repeat or speak more slowly if necessary.

Learn how to introduce yourself effectively. Discuss your current activities, your goals, and the reasons behind your desire to gain experience in the hotel and restaurant industry abroad. Present yourself by sharing who you are, what you do outside of your studies or work, and emphasize your passions. Additionally, take the time to research the employer and their establishment. Your advisor will provide as many details as possible, but it’s always a good practice to do some research on your own.

Lastly, prepare a list of questions to ask during or at the end of the interview. You can inquire about the job itself, the responsibilities involved, accommodation details (if it’s a live-in position), information about the teams, the nationalities represented, and more. Show your genuine interest and motivation.

It’s worth noting that personality and motivation often carry more weight than professional experience, so be sure to highlight these aspects as much as possible.
